How much can you earn per 1000 views on YouTube?

If you watch YouTube a lot and don’t pay for a premium account, you have to watch ads. Most of the ads are shown before the start of the video, but sometimes they are shown repeatedly while you’re watching them.
Many people are interested in how much the site pays to the authors of the video, namely how much YouTube pays per 1000 views. Let’s deal with this question further in the article.

The principle of making money on YouTube
YouTube does not pay the authors of videos out of its own pocket. It would be more correct to say that it shares the money that comes from advertisers. The way it works is that people buy ads on the platform, and YouTube inserts them into the videos. Then YouTube takes some of the profit for itself, and gives the rest to the author of the video.
To connect monetization, the channel must have at least 1000 subscribers and at least 4000 hours of total viewing time as well. The minimum withdrawal is $100.
What affects income and how to increase it
Earnings for authors from the CIS countries are different from European and Northern American authors. In the CIS countries, the rate is $2-4 per 1000 views, and the “Western” authors receive somewhere around $7. This is not an evil conspiracy – it’s just that the advertising market in the West is larger and the cost of advertising is higher.

But GEO is not the only factor that affects how much YouTube pays per 1000 views. The topic and audience of the channel are also important.
Audience. If the main audience of the channel are children, earnings will be significantly reduced. The logic here is simple: children have no money, so you won’t normally wait for them to buy someting. Conversely, if the channel has a mature and solvent audience, the income from advertising increases significantly.
Topic. There are a number of topics that are poorly monetized: for example, pranking, entertainment, reactions, and so on. The audience of these channels is mostly insolvent, so the price of advertising (and income of the author) is relatively low.
There high-paying topics are business, startups, cars, news, and politics. There are interesting for serious people who are willing to pay. But it is worth noting that it is more difficult to create content for such topics but that’s not the case for now.
Earnings on YouTube in 2023
The thing is that you can’t make much money on just one affiliate program. The author needs to collect millions of views on the videos for the income to be tangible, and these figures are hard to achieve. Unless you take popular clips and put them on your channel. Such scheme works until the content authors issue a strike or the algorithms catch you in the use of non-unique content. The algorithms are easy enough to fight (see our article how to bypass copyright on YouTube videos.
To earn more, bloggers connect additional sources of income. Let’s briefly break down the main ones.
Integrations
Integration is a process when the author puts a commercial into their video. Do not confuse it with the usual inserts from YouTube itself.
This is how it works: the company contacts the blogger, they negotiate the price and, if everything’s OK, the blogger puts the integration at the beginning, middle or end of the video.
Usually companies order integrations on channels of the relevant niche. For example, it would make sense for a mobile game developer to order advertising from a game reviewer blogger, and for a car dealership to order ads from bloggers who review cars.
Affiliate Links
Affiliate links are not a bad way to make money for niche bloggers. For example, if the author is running a channel about self-development, training and other things, they might be offered to become an affiliate for an online school.
Then they will put a link under his videos, and when people buy a course, the author of the video will get a percentage of each sale.
Donates
When a blogger gathers a loyal audience, they can connect donations. Donates are voluntary donations to the author of the channel from the subscribers.
Many bloggers ask viewers to support the channel with money to work on the quality of content, buy equipment and ensure the uninterrupted content making. And many subscribers agree if they find the content useful or interesting.
But if the blogger monetizes the channel with YouTube affiliate links, inserts integrations and affiliate links, it would not be nice to ask for a donation in such case. Usually, the opposite is done: the blogger intentionally does not advertise anything, and in return asks for donation, so that the project could provide itself.
Earnings from premium subscribers “YouTube”
Recently, users have gotten the opportunity to watch videos without advertising. You have to pay a monthly subscription for this, and some of this money also goes to the authors of the videos.
How much YouTube pays for views in 2023
Let’s move on to numbers. The problem is that it’s hard to name specific figures – they vary depending on the country and the channel’s subject matter. But there are averages, which we’ll share with you below.
«YouTube» pays 68% of its earnings from advertising. That means that for every $1 000, $680 goes to authors. The author gets $0.10-0.30 for each view of the embedded ads, but the average is about $0.18. It turns out that the average author receives $18 for every 1000 views of ads from his video, translated into ordinary views of about $3-5 per 1000 views.
There are various lists of data on how much YouTube pays the author for 1000 views. For example, look at the screenshot below.

From this screenshot you might get the idea to go to Norway and create content there to get fabulous money for every 1000 views. But the data in such tables is almost always, if not wrong, then not completely reliable.
As we have said earlier, affiliate income goes up and down depending on a bunch of factors other than country. If the average payment per 1000 views in Russia is about $ 2, this does not mean that the Russian blogger can not, theoretically, earn more. They can, but they just have to make quality content in a “serious” niche.
To summarize
It’s impossible to say exactly how much you can earn for 1,000 views on YouTube. If you’ve monetized your account, you can count on average earnings from each 1000 views, i.e. around $3-5. Is it much or little – it’s up to you to decide.
Actually, it is possible to earn good money on YouTube. But do not limit yourself to the affiliate network because, at start, profits will be meager.
When the channel assembles somewhat of an audience, it can be monetized through third-party affiliate programs, or to advertise other people’s products on their own.
How much does American YouTube pay for 1000 views?
In the West, bloggers receive considerably more. Whereas in Russia the average rate is from $2 to $4, in the USA it is about $8-10. This is primarily due to the price of advertising and the volume of the advertising market.
What is the best affiliate program to connect to a YouTube channel?
In general, any. But the results will be better if you connect the one that corresponds to the niche of your channel. For example, if your channel is about finance, business and self-development, you can connect an affiliate program of a bank. If your channel is about game novelties and hardware, then, theoretically, a gaming affiliate program shoud fit.
How many views per video do I need to partner with a good affiliate program?
Number of views is not the main element for an affiliate program. What matters is how engaged your audience is and how interesting your content is. If you make mediocre content with pranks, for example, then you can get only a few clicks on a link from one million views.
How much does Russian YouTube pay for 1000 views?
If you look at the lists with statistics, on average, Russian bloggers get $2-2.5 for 1000 views. In some cases, the rate goes up. For example, a blogger wrote a short article on a topic. He averaged $3.62. Everything here is variable.
